What is a Food box or Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program?
CSAs are Community Supported Agriculture programs and they are a great way to connect local community members with local farmers. Becoming a member of this program will provide you with weekly access to fresh and local produce bypassing the need to buy unknowingly sourced produce from the grocery stores during the farming season when there is so much availability for local produce. CSAs have a global goal to strengthen a sense of community through local markets and food distribution and we are proud to have added this service to our farm in 2021.
The model is rather simple; You subscribe to the farm by paying for a “share” at the beginning of the season helping to provide the necessary cash flow when us farmers need it most to buy seeds, perennials and other supplies. Then, as farmers, we grow a wide variety of vegetables throughout the growing season and when the crops are ready for harvest we provide our supporting members with weekly “shares” of fresh vegetables and package it promptly for a local pick-up.
This program is aimed at keeping small, local farms... well, small, local and personal. Your “share” purchase invests in our growing farm and helps to support the surrounding community with fresh naturally grown vegetables that are handpicked in season. We are committed to not using pesticides or herbicides on our farm. It is a lot more work but we think our food is worth it!
How to become a member of our Paper Bag CSA?
As a member, you will pay upfront for the season. Paying in full, gives us, the farmer, an opportunity to invest in seeds and other supplies, including equipment that we need to start up the growing season. In return, we commit to providing you with a weekly paper bag of fresh seasonal vegetables from mid July – mid-October.
Since we are firm believers in reducing waste, we are even going to take extra steps to reduce plastic usage on our farm by providing members with reusable containers for salads and other produce! The Paper Bags will be ready for pick up on Thursday each week of the program (July 7th - October 6th). There will be a drop-off bin in the Honesty Market for CSA members to drop off their containers weekly for the following week, or we can arrange to pick up those containers during the weekly pick up.
We offer a one-time payment or a 2 payment option plan;
-
Pay in full for $630
-
Make two equal payments of $315.
Limited shares are available and payment will secure your spot in our program.

What Products will be in your weekly CSA?
We love variety and are sure you will too! The Paper Bags will change from week to week and they may seem lighter in the early summer season but will make up for it in the fall with our main harvest. Despite how much is in your early Paper Bags we will ensure that you get your full value of your share over the course of the growing season.
Our Paper Bag CSA works out to be $40/week for 14 weeks. Some weeks the Paper Bags will include Farm Fresh Chicken Eggs, depending on what is available we may even add a few special eggs in from our other bird coops including our duck, guinea fowl or quail coops. Every egg has its own special taste and nutrients.

Here is what our CSA community members have to say...
I heard about the CSA program being offered by Upper Humber Settlement and I was so excited to try it - fresh vegetables from a local farm once per week sounded wonderful! But this program was so much more than that - organic locally grown produce, opportunity to taste new vegetables that I had never tried before, delicious bottled goodies such as homemade salsa and mustard pickles (some of the best I have ever tasted!) and goodies from other local businesses such as butter, cream and honey!
At Thanksgiving, we received all the fixin's for a beautiful meal, including a homemade apple dessert. Congrats on a great program, I look forward to seeing what's next!
This year I joined a CSA program with one of our local farms, Upper Humber Settlement, and today was our first delivery! I am beyond excited with this goodie bag of fresh, local groceries!
I couldn’t agree more. I began purchasing their products last year and have been so pleased with the quality of food they produce and am more than happy to support our local farmers! I encourage everyone to give them a follow, try some of their incredible food and support them, too!
Signing up for the CSA program at The Settlement NL was a game changer for me and my family. My little girl couldn't wait to see what was in Mom's brown paper bag. I don't know who was more excited to eat the fresh veggies more, me or her!
I tried new vegetables that I never heard of before and Lauralee was really great at giving me recipe ideas and helping me make their veggies a part of every meal! It has never been easier to eat healthy as this past summer with the help of their CSA!
